Tesla boss Elon Musk suggests the arrival of a more compact car, while admitting that the price of the manufacturer’s six ranges is too high. The firm has just canceled a cheaper version of the Model Y because of autonomy issues.

Tesla could soon launch a car that is cheaper than the Model 3. The entrepreneur said in a statement on Wednesday that his company could sell vehicles that are cheaper than the ranges currently offered (Model S, 3, X, Y, Cybertruck and Semi). Tesla recently lowered the price of Model Y, while canceling a cheaper version of the vehicle whose arrival was however scheduled.

During a conference call Wednesday, Elon Musk told investors and analysts: “It is important to return the car [électrique] affordable. We will not succeed in our mission if we do not make cars accessible. What concerns me most is that our cars are not cheap enough right now. We have to change this« .
Asked about the possible arrival of a new, cheaper car, Elon Musk did not walk away without giving more details: “I don’t think we can comment on our detailed product roadmap beyond what has already been announced as I think we prefer to reserve this for our launches, ”he says.
Before conceding: « it would be reasonable to think that sooner or later we would make some kind of compact vehicle, as well as probably some kind of higher capacity vehicle. These are plausible scenarios. But I think we still have a lot to do with the 3, the Y, the Cybertyruck and Semi […] I think we will do the right thing« .

Model 3 is currently the manufacturer’s most expensive vehicle with a starting price in France of € 48,800. It seems that significant economies of scale will still have to be achieved in order to deliver an attractive compact vehicle with reasonable range and a much lower price.
