Jakarta –
Government Taiwan criticized US tech billionaires, Elon Musk for “blindly flattering” Beijing, after he called Taiwan an “integral part” of China.
It is known that Beijing claims self-ruled Taiwan as its territory and is awaiting “reunification”. Government China has increased pressure on Taiwan since President Tsai Ing-wen came to power in 2016.
Musk drew Taipei’s ire by comparing Taiwan to the US state of Hawaii. Musk even called the island an “integral part” of China.

Musk “blindly flatters China and if his comments are made for commercial purposes, such comments are not worthy of being taken seriously and the speaker is not worthy of respect,” Taiwanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Jeff Liu told reporters, quoted by the news agency AFPThursday (14/9/2023).
“We don’t know if Musk’s free will is for sale but Taiwan is not for sale, that’s for sure,” he said.
Previously, Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu also criticized Musk in a post on X, Musk’s platform previously known as Twitter. “Listen, Taiwan is not part of the PRC and certainly not for sale!” Wu wrote in X, using the acronym People’s Republic of China (PRC).
Musk made the statement at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles which was uploaded to YouTube this week.
“Their (Beijing’s) policy is to reunite Taiwan with China. From their point of view, perhaps this is analogous to Hawaii or something, like an integral part of China that is arbitrarily not part of China especially because the US Pacific Fleet has stopped trying any reunification by force,” Musk said.
