Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Elon Musk’s lies are exposed again. Tesla’s lawyers in Germany revealed that the mileage of a Tesla car battery was less than half the mileage claimed by the CEO.
The beginning of Musk’s lies being revealed was an attempt by a customer in Germany to cancel a purchase because he claimed the car he received was defective. German law does permit such cancellations. Condition, consumers must pay compensation in a certain amount.
Compensation is calculated proportionally depending on the kilometers traveled by the vehicle compared to the projected age of the vehicle. In other words, the longer the age, the lower the compensation that must be paid by consumers.
Quoted on Wednesday (22/2/2032), Christoph Lindner and Jennifer Hofmann told Autoevolution information about Tesla’s actual mileage, about four cases of canceled purchases related to Tesla.
They revealed that one of the strategies of Tesla’s lawyers was to get Tesla to receive greater compensation by disclosing the expected age of the vehicle.
Lindner revealed that Tesla sold the vehicle with the crack in June 2022. He admits to having represented more than 200 lawsuits against Tesla.
The first case came from the Darmstadt District Court (Landgericht Darmstadt). The unnamed customer purchased a Tesla Model 3 in April 2019 and attempted to cancel the purchase in June 2020 after driving the EV for 21,000 km.
Lawyers for the consumer use the vehicle age expectations that Elon Musk has touted about the electric vehicle, to determine the compensation to be paid to Tesla.
In Tesla’s Autonomy Day, on April 22 2019, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that, “Tesla batteries can travel 300,000 to 500,000 miles”, if converted to kilometers it becomes 482,800 km to 804,600 km.
Tesla’s lawyers later disputed the standard, claiming the Model 3 could only last 200,000 km and 250,000 km according to case law.
Tesla then changed lawyers. Once again they are using a much shorter range projection than Musk’s statement, which is between 250,000 km and 300,000 km.
Tesla’s lawyer argued and said that the buyer’s lawyer misinterpreted what the Tesla CEO said. According to him, Musk’s statement is not a binding statement but must be interpreted as an advertisement.
Tesla’s attorney’s argument is actually dangerous, because it could actually make Tesla flooded with accusations of false advertising.

The German judge was unmoved. He set the verdict that the expected age of the Tesla Model 3 was 800,000 km, as Musk said in 2019. Tesla filed an appeal, stating the electric car’s age was no higher than 210,000 km. Now the case is still in the process of appeal.
In another case, Tesla’s lawyers also used the same argument that Tesla’s expected age of only 210,000 km is not as far as Musk is boasting. In fact, they stated, “unlike spark engine cars, electric cars are more susceptible to certain damage.”
In the third case, the same argument returns. This time around, Tesla’s lawyers said Musk’s 800,000km mileage expectations were just a possibility. Musk’s statement, according to Tesla’s lawyers, cannot be taken seriously because to travel such a distance, a car must be used regularly for 50 years.
For the fourth case, judges in Munich decided to set a higher vehicle mileage expectation than a spark-engined car, namely 350,000 km.
The judge then explained his decision not to use Musk’s statement about 480,000 km. “CEO Elon Musk is known for giving sensational statements, which can be positioned as marketing efforts.”
