Forest SpaceX, Elon Musk announces to build launch rocket into space from the sea, to be precise from the Gulf of Mexico. The launch of the Starship rocket will launch in 2022.
Quotes Extreme Tech, SpaceX has conducted a test flight of its next-generation Starship rocket from a development facility on a remote beach in Boca Chica, Texas.
In 2020, the SpaceX subsidiary also purchased two used oil refineries in the ocean, which were later named Phobos and Deimos, after Mars’ moons. Once purchased, SpaceX began turning it into an offshore launch pad.
Elon Musk hopes that his plan to bring humans to Mars using SpaceX’s Starship rocket can be realized by the end of this decade.
Launch Tech Crunch, Musk announced plans for the Deimos ocean spaceport under construction via his personal twitter account.
In addition to the launch to Mars, SpaceX plans to use this offshore spaceport for missions to fly to the Moon and travel to specific points on Earth quickly.
In addition to launching missions to Mars and the Moon, Musk and SpaceX are also planning to build floating ports such as Phobos and Deimos near major cities around the world.
With this port network, SpaceX is claimed to be able to operate hypersonic flights from one point to another on Earth, for example from Beijing to New York, using a Starship rocket that only takes 30 minutes.
However, for now, SpaceX is still focused on getting the Starship rocket into orbit. The Starship rocket itself has only managed to reach an altitude of 10 km in its test flight.
