Twitter CEO Elon Musk has announced that Twitter’s blue bird logo will be replaced by the letter “X” today. He and Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino also hint that the name X will be used for part of the service or even the entire service.

Musk had been tweeting about the change for days in disguise. He stated that he had always had a thing for the letter ‘X’. That’s the name of his space organization SpaceX, and he founded X.com in 1999, which later became known as the payment platform PayPal. If you now enter x.com, you will end up on Twitter’s website.

Last year, Musk already talked about his purchase of Twitter becoming a gear meant of the all-encompassing app X, which he wants to create. According to news site The Verge, he would have informed Twitter employees in an email last night that the company will now be called X.

New functions

Yaccarino says that with the upcoming logo change will also come a change in functionality, but she’s vague about exactly what this means. “Twitter made a huge impact and changed the way we communicate, now X will go further,” she says. X will be a new global marketplace for ideas, goods, services and opportunities, she says.

Since Musk took over Twitter in October, he has fired some of the staff, limited the number of tweets that non-paying users can see and lifted the strict rules that applied to tweets, among other things.

The last few months have been turbulent for Musk’s platform. For example, half of the advertising revenue would have disappeared, and the use was limited to scrap against data. According to the CEO, this automatic collection of large amounts of information leads to Twitter becoming slower or more unreliable.
