[이코노미스트 마켓in 이승훈 기자] Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on the 11th (local time) that a fierce battle with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will be held in Italy.
Musk claimed on X (old Twitter) that day, “I talked to the Italian Prime Minister and the Minister of Culture,” and “they agreed on an epic place.”
While Musk did not reveal the exact date of the fight, he hinted in a post titled ‘Gladiator’ that the fight would take place at the Colosseum in Rome, the capital of Italy.
The Colosseum is an ancient Roman amphitheater built in AD 80, where gladiators fought wild beasts in the past. It has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a monument representing Rome as well as the whole of Italy.
According to Italy’s ANSA news agency, Italian culture minister Gennaro San Giuliano confirmed that he had discussed with Musk about the location of the fight.
Minister San Giuliano said in a statement that day that hosting the event with Musk would “raise a huge amount of money, amounting to millions of euros, which will be donated to two important pediatric hospitals in Italy.”
“It will be an opportunity to promote our history, archeology, art and cultural heritage to the world,” he added.
Some have raised the possibility that the location of the fight between the two billionaire CEOs will be the Colosseum in Rome, but it seems that the location has not been confirmed yet. This is because Musk did not mention the exact location, and the comments of related personnel were also mixed.
Dana White, CEO of UFC, the world’s best martial arts organization, appeared on a podcast hosted by Mike Tyson on the 9th and said that he was discussing with Italian cultural officials about holding a match between Musk and Zuckerberg at the Coliseum.
However, Minister San Giuliano said, “We discussed with Musk how to hold a great charity event that evokes history, but the game will not be held in Rome.”
Previously, Musk proposed a cage duel to Zuckerberg in June, and as Zuckerberg responded, attention was drawn to whether the confrontation of the century would take place.
