Elon Musk Accuses Reuters of Spreading False Information about Tesla’s Affordable Electric Car Production Plans

Head of Tesla Corporation Elon Musk, accused the Reuters news agency of spreading false information that the company plans to discontinue production of an affordable budget electric car.

According to Musk, Reuters is once again spreading misinformation. At the same time, without specifying specific aspects of falsification.

Earlier, Reuters, based on three sources and relevant documents from Tesla, reported the corporation’s intentions to abandon the creation of an affordable electric car, focusing exclusively on robotaxis. The reason for this decision was increased competition from manufacturers of inexpensive crossovers from China, prices for which start at $10 thousand (900 thousand rubles).

At the beginning of the year, agency sources indicated the launch of the Redwood compact crossover in mid-2025 at a price of about $25 thousand (2.3 million rubles). Tesla currently offers premium vehicles, the Model 3 and Model Y, whose prices range from $37.5 thousand to almost $45 thousand (from 3.5 million rubles to more than 4.2 million rubles at the current exchange rate).

Developing an affordable electric car has previously been recognized by Musk as his “dream.” The implementation of this project, according to Reuters, could significantly increase Tesla sales to 20 million cars by 2030, citing statements by a businessman in 2020. This figure would be twice the production volume of the world leader Toyota.

Elon Musk previously set the date of August 8 for the presentation of robotaxis by Tesla.
