Ellen DeGeneres breaks her silence after the end of her long-running talk show

Ellen DeGeneres, the former host of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” has finally spoken out after her show came to a close in the midst of allegations of a toxic workplace.

During her first show of Ellen’s Last Stand…Up Tour in Los Angeles, DeGeneres opened up about her absence from the limelight in recent years. She shared that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, had taken some time off.

Reflecting on the backlash she faced after employees came forward with claims of racism, fear, and intimidation, DeGeneres admitted, “The ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. I became this one-dimensional character who gave stuff away and danced up steps.”

Addressing the past

During the show, an audience member asked DeGeneres if she was able to dance through tough times. She responded honestly, stating, “No, it’s hard to dance when you’re crying. But I am dancing now.”

The comedian vulnerability shared her feelings about the way her show ended. She expressed, “I’m making jokes about what happened to me, but it was devastating, really. I just hated the way the show ended. I love that show so much, and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way.”

DeGeneres’s final episode concluded her 19-year tenure, during which she expressed, “I walked out here 19 years ago, and I said that this is the start of a relationship. And today is not the end of a relationship. It’s more of a little break. It’s a, ‘You can see other talk shows now. And I may see another audience once in a while.'”

The aftermath and taking responsibility

Following the toxic workplace allegations, DeGeneres returned to her show and expressed her remorse. She admitted, “I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.”

The executive producers of the show made a statement of apology, acknowledging the negative experiences that some individuals had while working on the show. They shared their commitment to creating an open, safe, and inclusive work environment.

Looking forward, DeGeneres is embarking on a touring comedy schedule, where she will have the opportunity to connect with her fans.
