The “supermodel” Elle MacPherson, One of the great fashion icons of the 90s, has revealed that she has been suffering from breast cancer for 7 years and her refusal to treat it with chemotherapy, opting instead for a “holistic approach”.
“It was a shock, something unexpected, confusing and discouraging in many ways,” she confesses about her feelings upon learning the diagnosis in an interview given to The Weekly magazine on her 60th birthday and on the occasion of the publication of her memoirs, titled simply ‘Elle’now in bookstores.
In it, she justifies that in terms of her treatment she needed to “be true” to herself and “trust in the nature” of her body, so, after many weeks seeking advice (specifically, she speaks of 32 doctors and experts), she decided to put herself in the hands of her family doctor, who specializes in “integrative medicine.”

It is a discipline that integrates alternative medicine with conventional medicine and thus uses “a combination of therapies and lifestyle changes to treat and heal the person as a whole.”
“Saying no to standard medical solutions was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. But saying no to my own inner self would have been even harder,” she writes in her book, a decision she later admits she knew many would not share, including members of her family, and which would lead many others to think she was “crazy.”
According to her, after undergoing this type of holistic treatment for eight months in Phoenix (USA), her cancer is, “in traditional terms, in remission.”
