I am a patient undergoing chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer.
A few days ago this “news” in this newspaper: “Elle Macpherson reveals that he has cancer and that he refuses to undergo chemotherapy,” and it hurt me very, very much.
We cannot control what any person publishes or does not publish on their social networks, much to my regret. However, putting this in this diary has touched me deeply, it has touched a new nerve that has been created in my head: cancer.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago, and it was terrifying to digest and digest such news. It was quite an uphill battle. And it wasn’t just me, those around me were also affected.
I often recall memories of that appointment with what they told me: treatments, surgery and the whole situation that lay ahead for me.
I have never considered any other option than traditional medicine and the treatments I was told about. Both the operations and the different chemotherapy and radiotherapy options are backed by work and research that we cannot imagine; also, unfortunately, because there are many cases similar to mine and they are constantly being studied.
Elle Macpherson has millions of followers on social media and, although the people around me will never take her as an example of anything, I know that there are many people who will, and may consider, if necessary, not treating themselves with chemotherapy or traditional medicine procedures, and instead using holistic treatments, as she explains in her posts.
And this is very dangerous, and it is also dangerous to publish this type of content in a newspaper like DIARIO DE NOTICIAS. It seems to me, of course, that we should have a little more responsibility with certain issues that have to do with public health. I hope that no one close to the person who is in charge of publishing this content suffers from cancer in the future, because if they look back they may regret not having thought a little more about others.
I hope this letter serves some purpose, to touch people’s consciences and to trust in the medicine we have, impeccable and close by. I’m doing well, I’ll let you know.
