On Saturday night, the stage is again set for pleasant, tearful and memorable moments in An evening at Kloppen.
Gathered for dinner with Solveig Kloppen (50) this time sits NRK presenter Anne Lindmo (51), city council leader Raymond Johansen (60) and artist Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen (23).
The latter showed off her Sami roots and musical talent in Star Wars in 2018 – where she emerged victorious from the competition with the Adjágas yoik «Ozan».
However, the time before this was heavy and difficult.

Ble hetset
Isaksen, who is originally from Tana, moved down to Alta as a 16-year-old to go to high school there.
At the garden table, the 23-year-old tells about how school time did not turn out quite as she had imagined. The singer experienced incitement and bullying for his Sami background.

– I was really ready for it really, I thought. And then you discover many things in life, she says in the TV program, and continues:

– For me, it was very much about growing up in a Sami paradise where everyone around me speaks Sami. My mother is proud of it, wearing a cardigan on May 17 – that’s how we do it. And then no one had mentioned to me that it was not like that everywhere. It was a little creepy sometimes to get a little ugly comments: “Huff, do you have to speak Sami? Can’t you calm down a little? Speak Norwegian, here we speak Norwegian ». It came so suddenly to me.
The ISÁK vocalist admits that the comments hit her hard.
– There were many years where I went to bed, and then I tried to imagine what I could have answered. I spent a lot of time on it. “Oh, next time I will say so and so”, and then you are in that situation again, and then the words do not come. It was a bit of a loss of confidence, she says.

When asked if Isaksen considered going home to her parents, she answers the following:
– I think I’m a little stubborn. I should never give up school, I should not. I had a couple of nights where it got really hard. And then there are long distances.

But on a dark, windswept December evening, Isaksen decided to go home to Tana – a five-hour drive and 400 km from Alta – on foot.
A friend drove her a short distance before she was dropped off on the road.
– I thought that someone would pick me up at some point, she says.

Eventually, the singer hitchhiked to a desolate place where there were few buildings. Furthermore, Isaksen began to walk in the direction of his hometown, and then the doubt crept in.
– I started thinking: «Huff, maybe this can go a little bad? What should I do if no one picks me up? ».
Fortunately, Isaksen was picked up, and was in front of his parents’ doormat a few hours later. The next morning she was still sent back to school at 05 by plane from Vadsø.
– Patched myself together
During the Star Wars period, Isaksen went into trauma therapy to process the painful experiences of the past.
– It was exactly in that period where I feel that I patched myself together again, she says.

Everyday life got better for the Tana girl as time went on.
– Now I feel very good, she says and smiles.
Isaksen thinks she has grown up faster as a result of what she has experienced growing up.
– I think I have learned a lot from it, she concludes.
