The music scene is buzzing with the fresh, soulful sounds of Ella Laïrone, a young singer from Toulouse who is making waves with her debut EP, Le Cœur des gens. Released recently, the EP is a vibrant mix of R&B and pop, infused with a sunny yet deeply emotional spirit. With a new single, Broken My Heart, set to drop on February 14, and a performance at the Gospel Touch Festival in Tournefeuille on March 14, Ella is poised to captivate even more listeners.
From Childhood Dreams to the Stage
Ella’s journey into music began at a remarkably young age. “I sang at home, and friends passing by where always surprised to hear me from my room with my microphone and my amp,” she recalls. “I started singing at the age when others were playing Barbie.” By the time she entered middle school at 10, Ella was already performing on stage, honing her craft in small venues like restaurants and bars.
Her talent didn’t go unnoticed. Encouraged by her father, Ella began entering singing competitions, where she quickly started winning trophies. “At the beginning, I wrote and sang out of necessity,” she explains.“It was a sort of outlet to calm myself down, like others like to exercise every day. And as I had things to say, I decided to start writing songs, a bit like texts for a diary, and that liberated me.”
A Meeting That Shaped Her Sound
As Ella grew older, her musical aspirations evolved. A pivotal moment came when she met composer youcef Oumnoub, who helped her refine her style into a more urban, contemporary sound. This collaboration marked the beginning of her professional journey, as she began composing and learning the intricacies of the music industry. However, it wasn’t an overnight success. Ella spent seven years perfecting her craft, driven by a desire to translate her emotions and experiences into music.“I write all the time,” she says. “Emotion, feelings, the need to evoke time passing—these are the things that inspire me.”
Le Cœur des gens: A Debut to Remember
Her dedication culminated in the release of her debut EP, Le Cœur des gens, a 7-track project that showcases her versatility and emotional depth. Songs like The Heart of the People, I’ll Be There, and You’ve Won stand out for their intricate orchestrations and heartfelt lyrics. Ella’s voice, described as “free and liberated,” carries a festive yet poignant energy that resonates with listeners.
The EP is accompanied by meticulously crafted music videos, with Ella taking an active role in the creative process. “I am keen to manage this part by taking care of the costumes, the artistic direction, and the editing,” she shares. “While keeping in mind what I am.”
