Ella French dead – Chicago cops ‘turn their backs on Mayor Lori Lightfoot’ as officer’s father blames her for shooting

MORE than two dozen police appeared to turn their backs on Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot in protest as Ella French’s grieving father “blamed” the politician for the officer’s death.

French, 29, died on August 7 after being shot dead during a traffic stop while another police officer reportedly fighting for his life in hospital.

Lori Lightfoot went to the University of Chicago Medical Center on Sunday as around 30 police demonstrated.

An anonymous person told the Chicago Sun-Times: “It looked like she had been choreographed. “

It is reported that the mayor appeared “shaken” by the scenes at the hospital.

French’s father reportedly yelled at Lightfoot and blamed her for what had happened.

John Catanzara, president of the Chicago Police Union, said turning his back was a “prime example” because he said the cops did not support the Democratic leadership, according to the Sun-Times.

A spokesperson for Lightfoot told the outlet: “In a time of tragedy, emotions run high and that’s to be expected.

“As the mayor said, now is not the time for divisive and toxic rhetoric or reporting. Now is the time for us to come together as a city.

“We have a common enemy and these are the conditions that breed violence and manifestations of violence, namely illegal guns and gangs. “

Ella’s family said “God took the wrong child” in paying homage.

Andrew French said: “My sister has always been a person of integrity. She always did the right thing, even when no one was looking at her.

“She always believed in people and believed in doing the right thing.

“She has always believed in taking care of people who cannot take care of themselves. “

Andrew said he was proud of Ella and that he would remain proud of his sister.

It comes as two suspects have been charged with his death.

Emonte Morgan, 21, has been charged with the first degree murder of a police officer, two counts of attempted first degree murder, aggravated illegal use of a weapon and illegal use of a weapon by a criminal.

His 22-year-old brother, Eric Morgan, has also been charged.

Eric has been charged with aggravated illegal use of a weapon, illegal use of a weapon by a criminal and obstruction of justice.

Emonte and Eric are due in court for a bail hearing on August 10.

French and his fellow officer conducted a traffic check at around 9 p.m. on August 7 at West Englewood.

Two men and a woman were traveling in the car, police said.

A person inside the vehicle, suspected of being Emonte, reportedly opened fire on the police during the stop as the cops exchanged gunshots.

Paying tribute, Chicago Police officials said, “We will never forget the true bravery she (Ella) exemplified as she sacrificed her life to protect others. “

Chicago was in the throes of another bloodshed weekend.

Statistics show that there have been more than 1,000 shootings in the city streets in the past six years.

Ella’s death was one of 11 recorded after a security guard, 40, was killed for allegedly refusing his attacker to enter a club, ABC7 reports.

A 37-year-old man was shot twice in the neck and three times in the back; later, a 25-year-old man was shot three times in the stomach and died.

Then, in the early hours of Sunday, a 47-year-old man was found dead from a gunshot wound in his car.

A total of 73 people were shot dead over the weekend, including 16 in three mass shootings.

Until last weekend, only two men had been convicted of one of 212 mass shooting incidents since 2016, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
