Elizabeth ignores orders and cuts cake with ceremonial sword

She proved last Friday that the 95-year-old is far from being an old pie and still in for some fun. During lunch at Eden Project in Cornwall, the Queen was offered a cake, which she decided to cut – completely out of script – with the sword of the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall.

When the royal was pointed out that a knife was also present, she reacted shrewdly that it is “more unusual” this way, after which bystanders Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker Bowles could not contain their laughter. Well, take a look at that.

Today, too, the British Queen is not sitting still and has traditionally announced the Birthday Honors at the official celebration of her birthday – comparable to the rain of ribbons in the Netherlands. The list is dominated by people who played an important role in fighting the corona pandemic, according to British media, but there was also room to praise famous Britons.

One of the most appealing names is Jonathan Pryce, who was nominated for an Oscar last year for his role in The Two Popes. The actor, also known for Game of Thrones, already became Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2009, but is now also knighted and can now put Sir in front of his name. Interestingly enough, Pryce has been cast to take over the role of Prince Philip in the upcoming seasons of the Netflix hit The Crown.

The ‘honours’ are awarded twice a year: on the Queen’s official birthday in June and at the end of the year. Recently, the British royal became Lilibet’s great-grandmother. According to Marc van der Linden, Prince Harry had to have the name approved by her.
