The Czech Ball reigned over the weekend here, while in Los Angeles the 30th annual SAG Awards (Screen Actors Guild Award), i.e. the film and television awards that are such a harbinger of the Oscars, took place. One of the awards was given to Elizabeth Debicki, who took home the statuette for her performance as Princess Diana in the series The Crown, beating Jennifer Aniston (in the series The Morning Show) or Bella Ramsey (in the series Last of Us) in her category.
- The main prize of the evening went to the creators of the blockbuster film Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy. Barbra Streisand received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Pedro Pascal, who won the award for the best male performance in the Last of Us series, also scored.
The best serial Diana
Elizabeth Debicki said that she did not expect the victory at all, and to be nominated next to such fellow actors is an honor for her. She came barefoot to the stage to accept the award. She said she didn’t fasten her shoes properly, so she threw them away so they wouldn’t get in the way. Even so, she was charming in a light blue body-hugging dress by Armani Privé.
On stage, she thanked the entire “crown family” and confessed that working on this series was a huge gift for her. As Diana, she starred in the last two series, when she took over from the no less talented Emma Corrin. The plot revolved around her divorce from Prince Charles, her relationship with Dodi Al-Fayed and culminated in a tragic car accident in Paris in 1997.
Third prize in a row
We have to admit that some scenes were breathtaking – she managed to play Princess Diana really faithfully. Her appearance and gestures also underlined the style of speech, which she eavesdropped on from the official interviews of the princess. The actress herself confirmed on Jimmy Fallon’s talk show that she was never as disciplined as she was before filming The Crown.
Filming was preceded by a year of research, when she tried to get into her role as much as possible, as she told People magazine. She considers Diana to be one of the most remarkable personalities ever, and during the preparations she was surprised by how wonderful the Princess of Wales’s sense of humor was. She approached the serial role simply with great responsibility and it paid off! SAG is not her first award for the role of Diana – she recently received a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Television Award.

Star from Gatsby
The 33-year-old actress, measuring 188 centimeters, was born in Paris to a Polish father and an Australian mother. She also spent most of her childhood in Australia. She wanted to become a ballerina, but her height prevented her from doing so. So she threw herself into acting, which she also studied.
She first caught the eye in the supporting role of Jordan Baker in the film The Great Gatsby (2013). But you might recognize her there only because of her height. She wore a short black wig in the movie and looks completely different than in real life. Her films Night Receptionist (2016), the action blockbuster Tenet (2020) or the second and third installments of Guardians of the Galaxy are also worth paying attention to.
- Elizabeth is very tight-lipped about her private life. However, in her acceptance speech at the recent Golden Globes, she thanked her partner Kristian Rasmussen, confirming that she is engaged.
