With the genuine intention of creating channels of communication and information for people with mental illnesses such as stress, depression and anxiety derived from COVID-19, the artist and illustrator Chiapas Guadalupe Elizabeth Pérez Sánchez, better known as Elizabeth Bessdesigned the projectApache: Walls that seek accompaniment”.
According to the artist, the proposal, benefited by the Program of Incentives for Creation and Artistic Development (PECDA) 2021, arises from the effects that COVID-19 left, either due to isolation or sequelae of the disease.
He pointed out that “what I am looking for is to paint murals throughout the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, where phrases, words and images can be appreciated that are so significant that they serve as accompaniment, moral support and reflectioneven in the distance, for people who have suffered mental damage, either due to confinement, due to the disease itself or due to the loss of relatives during the health contingency and that this be the link to receive help from professionals.
Elizabeth Bess added that in addition to the visual aid, the murals will be able to be directed to the website www.mentalizarte.com, which is also part of the projectApache: Walls that seek accompaniment”, where you can get true information about mental health care or, where appropriate, help from professionals. The artist, a graduate of the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas, explains that “on networks and the internet there is a lot of information about it; however, they are heavy, long texts and the idea is to take all this information from institutions such as the UN, WHO and specialists, make an interpretation and translate it into these murals; We also have the Mentalizarte site, where it is explained what mental health is, how to detect disorders and how to cope with it on a day-to-day basis, providing summarized and illustrated information”.

The artist notes that with these murals she is not only trying to carry out urban artistic intervention, but also to provide support and information on a subject as important and as little discussed as mental health care in the face of COVID-19.
The creator explained that she will dedicate 2022 to the elaboration of the murals, which will be carried out with the collaboration of the communities where they are made. “There will be five murals, which will be painted with the people of the surrounding community. The idea is to generate a registry and publish it on social networks, in order to summon people who want to participate in the elaboration of the murals.”.
The creator said that there will be the participation of psychologists and mental health specialists so that they can provide advice to the people who attend the elaboration of the murals.
