elite series, Football | Molde close agreement on transfer for Ohi replacement

Molde loses top scorer Ohi Omoijuanfo. Now they are in the process of signing a replacement.

The former Vålerenga and Sarpsborg striker Aaron Samuel is, according to Nettavisen’s experience, details away from a transfer to Molde. The 27-year-old Nigerian has been without a contract after the agreement with Chinese Changchun Yatai expired earlier this year.

Romsdals Budstikke reported Molde’s interest in the striker last week. The newspaper then reported that the player’s agent Atta Aneke had been observed at Aker Stadium during the club’s training and that the parties were in specific negotiations for a contract.

Now Samuel will only be small details and a medical check away from being ready for Molde, where he will be a replacement for the Elite Series’ top scorer Ohi Omoijuanfo who has already signed for the Serbian big club Røde Stjerne from 1 January.

– I have no comment on this now, Molde director Ole Erik Stavrum told Nettavisen about the impending transition earlier this week.

Samuel is said to have secured a lucrative deal with a significant sign on fee to sign for Molde. If nothing unforeseen happens, Samuel Molde will become a player in a short time.

It is still not inconceivable that Omoijuanfo could disappear to Serbia already this summer. According to Nettavisen’s information, Molde and Røde Stjerne will be in specific negotiations about an immediate transfer which entails a significant transfer fee to the league leader in Norway.

The Serbian big club has already offered Molde around 800,000 euros, equivalent to around 8 million kroner to redeem the tip of the contract already now.

Samuel was brought to Sarpsborg 08 from Vålerenga in 2013. He played a total of 31 games and scored 13 goals for Sarpsborg 08.

After the success of the blue and white suit, he was sold to Guangzhou in China, and afterwards he has played for both CSKA Moscow and Amkar Perm in Russia, Beitar Jerusalem in Israel, Sichuan in China and most recently Changchun Yatai in China.

He played a key role when the latter moved up to the Chinese top league last season.

On Wednesday, Nettavisen was able to report Vålerenga’s interest in former Molde back Martin Linnes. His contract with the Turkish big club Galatasaray has expired and Linnes is now considering whether to move home to Norway or continue his career abroad. According to the information, Molde also has a strong desire to bring Linnes back to the club.
