elite series, Brann | Horneland after relegation:

Eirik Horneland is fully aware that he will join Brann in the Obosligaen, but says he has no problems taking responsibility if the club management points to him.

INTILITY ARENA (Nettavisen): 19 July this year got Kåre Ingebrigtsen fired as Brann coach. Then the Bergen club was second last on the table with a weak seven points after 14 games played – three games more than Stabæk in last place.

After Eirik Horneland took over the responsibility, the Bergen team picked up 19 points in the next 16 matches – without it being anything other than a qualifier and finally relegation to the Obosligaen.

Just over a month ago, while Brann was fighting feverishly against the ghost of relegation, the club chose to sign a permanent agreement with Horneland until the 2023 season.

Horneland ready to join

Horneland intends to abide by that agreement, unless the management believes he is no longer the right man for the job. The former Haugesund and Rosenborg coach is basically determined to join the Obosliga next season.

– If the club wants me to do it, then of course I do it. If someone thinks I should take responsibility, then I have no problem taking responsibility either, Horneland says to Nettavisen.

He is aware that another weekday awaits next season when Brann will play against clubs such as Stjørdals-Blink, Grorud and Raufoss in the Obosligaen.

– It means more difficult times financially and in terms of interests. Brann is a big club, so there is a huge impact on those who work here, players, support staff and managers. Then we will see if the club, the players and the support apparatus have it in them to strike back cruelly, Horneland says.

Find: – There is only one goal next season

Brann player Bård Finne is in no doubt that Brann will be straight up again in the Eliteserien.

– We have many good football players, and when you see how much we create against one of the top teams that have played in that league this year, there is no doubt that there is only one goal for us next season, says Finne to Nettavisen.

He is supported by teammate Sivert Heltne Nilsen, who, however, is aware that a solid work effort must be made if Brann is to move straight up again.

– It’s about rebuilding the club and coming back stronger, because we have to. I have faith that we will make it happen, but it requires hard work, says Heltne Nilsen to Nettavisen.

Chairman of the Board: – Cruel

It was a very disappointed Brann board chairman Birger Grevstad who met Nettavisen just after the relegation was a fact.

– It’s horrible. I’m sad and sorry. I thought we had an opportunity today. We played well, but it’s like that now. We have had a lot of adversity this year. There have been incidents that have meant that we have always had to fight with our backs to the wall. It is despairing, says Grevstad to Nettavisen.

– What is the main reason why Brann has ended up in the Obosligaen 2022?

– What should I answer to that? We have received too few points, played too bad football… We have lost regular matches against the bottom teams, says the chairman of the board.

Despite Wednesday’s solid downturn, Grevstad is offensive with a view to continuing.

– Now we will go through budgets and get those things on the field. We have to make sure that we get up again during the next year, he says.

He is unsure of what changes will be seen in the squad towards next season, but does not rule out that there will be some changes.

– I do not know, but I hope most people will and will be on the journey up again. It can be fun, says Grevstad.

– Is there anything you are thinking about now immediately that you should have done differently this season?

– No, not immediately. It becomes so difficult and wrong to say anything about it now. I’m just very sad and sad. I am sorry for all the people from Bergen who support us and all those who love the Sports Club Brann. I think it’s a difficult day.

Johannesen: – Can not summarize the year tonight

Asked by BT whether the club management should have waited so long to fire Kåre Ingebrigtsen earlier this year, Grevstad answers the following:

– I can not comment on that now, says Grevstad. He insists that it was right to hire Eirik Horneland on a longer contract earlier this year.

General manager Vibeke Johannesen was also grilled with a number of critical questions in the press zone after the match.

After being asked about the artificial turf case, where she and the board went on a defeat, about the firing of Rune Soltvedt, the appointment of Jimmi Nagel Jacobsen, the timing of the dismissal of Kåre Ingebrigtsen, the general manager said:

– I do not want to go into details in individual cases. I can not sum up the whole year tonight. There is a deeply disappointed bunch in the locker room. I have a need to take care of the employees who are having a hard time.

Johannesen will not consider his own future at the club.

– I am interested in what is best for the club. I will discuss this with the board. It is up to the board to consider whether they want a new general manager. It is not something I have a discussion with you here and now, Johannesen said.

Already on Thursday, the table is set for a board meeting in Brann.
