Nenad Markovic (JDA Dijon coach): “In basketball, we know that sometimes players are injured, sometimes the shots don’t come in, but then the other players have to do more. We imagined it would be tough, because we didn’t have the offensive arsenal and the ball handlers of David (Holston) and Matt (Mobley), but there is not a player who used this game to highlight and do something good for the collective. This (Sunday) evening, there are some who have forgotten the collective, forgotten to make blocks, to put throws. We didn’t show that we were 4e of the championship, we can lose 40 points, but we must at least look like a team that played basketball (…) We knew that Asvel was going to attack us, we had to be more careful in the passes, stronger in defense. The face of the start of the match is clearly not what we wanted to put in place. »
TJ Parker (Asvel coach): “We changed two or three things, especially in terms of defensive intentions. We are a group of 12 and we can really increase the pressure, we will keep these intentions because it gives rhythm, in defense as in attack. But it’s only one game, we have to continue. We have this strength in the league, we can play with twelve, and if we defend hard, over the duration of the match it will not hold for the opponent. We also have to have him in the Euroleague. (…) Of course, it changes without Holston, he is someone who can create his own shot, make the right passes, we had prepared for it and we had planned to tire him with everyone. But injuries happen to all teams and we haven’t changed the way we play, that’s positive. »
Zaccharie Risacher (Asvel winger): “After the two matches of the week, we wanted to bounce back. I think we did it in the best possible way by putting the intensity, attacking them from the start. Afterwards, we made things easier, everyone responded present and we rolled out. We managed to defend well from the first minute, with all-terrain pressure, we left them nothing, everything was complicated, contested. And we were able to maintain that throughout the match and that made the difference. »
Jacques Alingué: “A feeling of being teased”
Jacques Alingué (captain of the JDA Dijon): “There’s a feeling of being bullied… It’s a little hard. It’s true that we’ve been on a little cloud lately, before the European Cup match against Strasbourg and then there… It’s not a question of the result but of commitment and intensity. We showed a part of our face that really wasn’t the right one. We did not know how to set up our offensive organization, we did not know how to respond to the physical challenge. They were in steamroller mode. Even at +20 or +30, they put our heads under water and we simply didn’t show character. »
