Elite Dangerous Odyssey will add billions of procedurally created worlds – Nerd4.life

Frontier has recently come back to talk about Elite Dangerous Odyssey, the new expansion of its space flight simulator. According to the English study, this expansion will add billions of new worlds explorables created procedurally, which will dramatically expand the dimensions of an already very large game.

This calculation was made by approximation: according to the first tests carried out by the study, in fact, the number of explorable planets will be about 20% for each region. Considering how many regions there are in the game, reaching one billion new worlds is a rather “easy” calculation.

Not all planets, however, can be crossed on foot: it will always depend on weather conditions that we will find and whether our virtual pilot can survive the temperature or gravity we will encounter on the new planet.

Despite this, the system will register who is the first to encounter or explore a given planet, in order to gratify the explorers who first entered the infinite space. Those who travel in company, however, must know that only one man will be the first to set foot on a planet and be remembered as such. The goal for the studio is to recreate what happened “with Buzz Aldrin who had to create the conditions to ensure that Neil Armstrong could put a foot on the moon.”

Elite Dangerous Odyssey will arrive on PC in “late spring” and on consoles in the fall.
