With the aim of continuing with the process of forming the road selections, the Salvadoran Cycling Federation (FSC) carried out the third check for the elite categories this weekend.
In the event, which had as its starting point the “Evelyn García” Velodrome of the El Polvorín Sports Complex, the cyclists did a 125 kilometer route at a competition pace in which 19 male athletes, seven female athletes and three athletes from the category participated. 17-18 years old.
“As a federation we are working with the dynamic of bringing together athletes from all over the country once a month. Each check allows us to obtain good parameters in the categories that compete,” commented Mario Contreras, FSC coach.
Road cycling is a modality in which the FSC seeks to motivate women to opt for the practice of this sport, so one of the objectives of these activities is to attract new prospects and motivate those who are already involved. .
“It was a hard workout, the first 30 kilometers were downhill and on the return it was a little more complicated for us, but we knew how to cope with the situation and we finished the checkup well,” said Sauking Chi, athlete in the elite category.
This checkup will serve as a warm-up for most cyclists prior to international commitments.
“Compared to the other check we did in January, there were passes that were timed, but the rest of the training was at a long distance pace. On that occasion we were able to see their strengths on the climbs,” added Contreras.
In the competition calendar for the road modality, the Surf City-El Salvador Grand Prix is scheduled to take place on March 4, followed by the Grand Prix-El Salvador that will take place on March 5; while on the 6th the Grand Prix-President will be held.
The cyclists will have a brief rest and will return with the activities in the Vuelta Ciclista a El Salvador, scheduled for March 12 and will end with the INDES Grand Prix on March 13. From April 26 to 28 they will participate in the International Women’s Tour to be held in Honduras.
