It’s up to Elise to give the Hagenezen a ride disguised as a taxi driver without being ‘discovered’. She makes contact with her Hague colleagues Samantha Steenwijk and Anna Drijver to learn the intricacies of the accent. She is also taught by Sjaak Bral, author of Ut Groen-Geile Boekie.
Elise has fun in the Hague class and screams with Sjaak. In this lesson she is allowed to do what is strictly forbidden in other lessons: name calling and being antisocial. It’s even one must. Doesn’t she do this in the taxi? Then the passengers immediately notice her. According to Sjaak, she is doing well.
With a black wig, a good dose of make-up and a bit in her mouth, Elise gets into the taxi. Since the assignment is already difficult enough, and because Sjaak Bral is in the mood for some flat humor, he drives behind her to whisper some tips through an earpiece. Every now and then Sjaak whispers some jokes in Elise’s ear, but for the most part she succeeds herself: she is a hit in the car in The Hague.
Only one woman has Elise in sight. “What struck me is that she may not be completely Hague.” The others don’t notice her at all. For example, a passenger says: “She was really such a girl from The Hague.”
What especially comes up is that the taxi rides are fun. “As if I was having a cup of tea with her,” said one customer. In short, mission accomplished. Elise can pass for a real Hague driver.
