Elise Vanderelst European champion in the 1500m

This Saturday evening in Torun, Poland, Élise Vanderelst achieved the best performance of her young career. The 23-year-old from Mons won the title of European champion in the 1500m indoor.

During the series this Friday, she had set the fifth time of the nine finalists in the 1500 m indoor. But the Belgian had the best qualifying time, and she managed to set her pace in the final. The race started at a slow pace, which does not correspond at all to the wishes of the young Belgian. But the Montoise, 300 m from the finish, decided to start and win all the other competitors to go and win a well-deserved gold medal.

This is obviously the first major performance of Élise Vanderelst’s young career in seniors. The Moha athlete was all smiles on arrival. However, the final time, in 4’18 ”is very far from its best time of this year (4’05 achieved in Liévin in January…).

With this European gold medal, Élise Vanderelst can calmly consider participating in the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer, for Mons, for the MOHA and for Belgium …
