Elisa Carrió was vaccinated against the coronavirus. He reported it through his social networks on the afternoon of Sunday, May 30. “I made it. I got vaccinated: first dose with AstraZeneca, 64 years old and with comorbidities. I am within the entire legal order of those over 60 with comorbidities”, He expressed in the video that accompanied the publication of his news. He did so after announcing on several occasions his refusal to inoculate Sputnik V because, he said, the Russian vaccine is a business of Cristina Kirchner and the Russians, “it is a national scam” and “it has no guarantees.”
In the middle of the month, the former National Deputy and founder of the Civic Coalition had affirmed that she was summoned to inject the first dose of the Russian vaccine but ruled out the turn. He said that his position was an act of personal protest in favor of the democracies of the world. She added that the Russian laboratory Gamaleya vaccine or any of Chinese origin was not going to be applied because she is “in favor of democracies”. In the video in which he announced his inoculation he said: “I am happy and I did not get vaccinated with the vaccine from a Russian laboratory because Putin is a dictator”.
The former official wears a vaccination poster from the province of Buenos Aires in the photo of her publication. He is living in the Buenos Aires town of Exaltación la Cruz. Carrió was vaccinated with the first dose of AstraZeneca, whose active component was made in a laboratory in Garín, in the province of Buenos Aires, packaged in Mexico and finished in the United States. The vaccine arrived in the country last week. On Sunday, May 23, 204 thousand doses of Astrazeneca, acquired by Argentina through the Covax mechanism, coordinated by the World Health Organization, arrived on flight KL701 from the Netherlands company, KLM. The following Monday, 843,000 doses of Astrazeneca from the United States entered, which are part of the first delivery of the contract signed by Argentina for 22.4 million doses.
The Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, announced in parallel that this Monday, May 31 at 7:55 in the morning, a shipment with another 2,148,600 doses from Argentina’s bilateral agreement with AstraZeneca will land at the Ezeiza international airport. It will be the largest landing of vaccines against the coronavirus that the country will receive.
Carrió also said he respected his principles by rejecting Sputnik V and waiting for another vaccine to be assigned to him. It seemed an indirect message to Mauricio Macri, who decided to get vaccinated in Miami. On May 16, in dialogue with the program Just one more turn of TNHe said: “What I argue is that leaders teach by example. If I was a leader of convictions and principles, I cannot go to Miami to get vaccinated. I think it’s very good that the people who can do it do it, but I am Argentine and I want to exercise leadership. Then I have to wait my turn ”.
The last thing he said in his brief presentation on social networks was political optimism: “Know that everything will happen and even if there are huge mistakes for September we will be fine”. September is the month of the Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory Primary elections (PASO). On Friday, May 7, it was defined that the PASO will be held on September 12 and the general ones, on November 14. The closing of lists and the start of the campaign will also be postponed for 45 days.
