Elina Svitolina Makes WTA 250 Auckland Quarterfinals after Defeating Emma Raducanu

The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina (WTA 25) reached the quarterfinals of the WTA 250 series hard tournament in Auckland (New Zealand).

In the 1/8 finals, the Ukrainian defeated the US Open 2021 champion in three sets Emma Radukan (Great Britain, WTA 301) for 2 hours and 50 minutes.

In the second set, the Ukrainian led with a break twice, but lost her advantage. Svitolina even had to save two hidden match points in the 8th game. As a result, the second game also went to a tiebreaker, which Elina took with a score of 7:3, although she was losing 1:3.

The third game was a mere formality, since Svitolina gained a psychological advantage and almost every ball of hers flew into the court, which cannot be said about Emma. As a result – 6:1.

This was the first meeting of the tennis players.

In the quarterfinals of the competition in Auckland, Elina will play against Maria Bouzkova (Czech Republic, WTA 36).

Earlier, Lesya Tsurenko, who lost to Diane Parry, was eliminated from the tournament in New Zealand.
