Elimination 2026 World Cup/Gabon-Kenya: Aubameyang still absent – AGP

Pierre Emérick Aubameyang still absent.

Libreville, November 7, 2023 (AGP) – The Olympique de Marseille striker is once again absent from the list of national coach, Thierry Mouyouma, to face Kenya on November 16. We note, however, the returns of Mario Lémina and Johan Obiang.

Coming out under the whistles last Saturday, during the shock against Lille (0-0), Pierre Emérick Aubameyang will not play the first day of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Franceville (provincial capital of Haut-Ogooué), against Kenya. A new absence that is curious to say the least, especially since the Marseille club has, to date, not released any press release on a possible injury to the latter that could compromise his presence. Mystery!

Still, the new coach of Gabon has remained faithful to his logic. Thierry Mouyouma, in fact, recalled the troops for this already crucial match. This resulted in the returns of Mario Lémina and Johan Obiang. Among the absentees, we note that of goalkeeper number 1, Joël Amonome, suspended for accumulation of yellow cards. André Poko, still short of competition, is also missing.

The publication, this Tuesday, of this list of twenty-three (23) players, via social networks as during the previous friendly match against Guinea (1-1), nevertheless aroused some reactions and concerns on the part of the national sports press, regarding this new format, considered unconventional. The Gabonese Football Federation (Fégafoot), however, provided some clarification on the issue.

«Thierry Mouyouma cannot host a press conference without having signed his contract. It’s a matter of time. This new way of communicating simply adapts to the context. Once the contract is signed, the traditional press conference will be scheduled and collaboration with the media will be defined, according to the requirements of the new coach», Specified the media officer of the Gabon national team, Pablo Moussodji Ngoma.
