Eliminate measles and rubella and maintain polio-free status in the WHO European Region

The course consists of 4-5 modules, each lasting 3-4 hours, and will be held from 21 to 23 January 2025. The course is aimed at early or mid-career professionals in the field of vaccine-preventable diseases, including scientists, policy makers and doctoral students.

Participants will acquire knowledge and develop skills to build capacity among key stakeholders to achieve measles and rubella elimination goals and ensure the maintenance of the region’s polio-free status. Key topics include:

  • an overview of the situation regarding measles, rubella and polio at the European Regional and global levels;
  • Characteristics of measles, rubella and polio, etiology and transmission;
  • Outbreak preparedness and prevention through vaccination;
  • Investigation of polio cases and investigation of and response to outbreaks of measles, rubella and polio;
  • Planning and preparation of additional immunization measures;
  • Vaccine safety – vaccine safety, injection safety, waste management and adverse events following vaccination;
  • Framework for verifying the elimination of measles and rubella.

The online course not only provides the basic knowledge and tools needed to work successfully in this field of vaccine-preventable diseases and public health, but also offers opportunities to network with colleagues and expand professional networks.

Requirements, selection criteria and registration

Participation in this online course is free.

Classes are held in English with simultaneous Russian interpretation.

Because of the online format of the course, a stable internet connection as well as a well-functioning camera, microphone and speakers are required.

Participants will be selected based on the CVs and a short statement submitted by each applicant. This short statement should describe (maximum 150 words) how the course will develop the participant’s skills and thus potentially contribute to the prevention of measles, rubella and polio in a country.

The application deadline is October 13, 2024. The result of the selection process will be communicated to all those who have applied by November 30. The selected participants will receive further information about the course at the same time.

The course will be held from 21 to 23 January 2025.

certification

Upon completion of the course, all participants will receive a certificate of participation from WHO/Europe.
