Eligible Walmart Shoppers Can Claim Cash Payments in Weighted Groceries Class Action Settlement

Weighted Groceries and Bagged Fruit: Claim Your Cash Payment from Walmart Class Action Settlement

Cash Payment Eligibility for Walmart Shoppers

LOS ANGELES — If you have recently purchased weighted groceries or bagged fruit from Walmart, you could potentially receive a cash payment as part of a class action settlement with the retail giant.

Allegations of Overcharging

The class action lawsuit, initially filed in October 2022, alleges that Walmart customers throughout the United States and Puerto Rico who bought certain meat and seafood sold by weight, as well as select bulk bagged citrus, paid a price higher than the lowest advertised price in stores.

Denial of Wrongdoing and Settlement Amount

Although Walmart denies any wrongdoing, the company has agreed to pay a hefty $45 million to settle the litigation. This settlement opens the doors for affected consumers to submit their claims and receive cash payments.
“We, at Walmart, remain committed to providing our customers with everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they desire and require,” stated a spokesperson from the company headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. “While we maintain our denial of the allegations, we believe that reaching a settlement is in the best interest of both parties involved in the lawsuit.”

Procedure for Claim Submission

Consumers, who purchased the specific weighted meat and seafood products, along with the stated citrus fruits, between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, are eligible to submit a claim for cash payment. To gain further information about the products covered and to submit a claim, please visit the settlement administrator’s website.

Cash Payments: Determined by Claim and Documentation

Payments for different claims will vary based on individual circumstances. Consumers who no longer possess a purchase receipt can still receive between $10 and $25, depending on the number of eligible products they validate purchasing during the settlement class period.
Those who possess receipts or other supporting documentation may be entitled to receive 2% of the total cost for each purchased product, with a cap of $500.

Payment Options

Approved claimants will receive their settlement payments electronically, which can be transferred through various platforms like Venmo, Zelle, or ACH. Additionally, those unable to receive electronic payments may request paper checks instead.

Claim Submission Deadline and Approval Process

The deadline for claim submissions is June 5, with a final approval hearing scheduled for June 12. Should any objections or comments arise, they can be lodged by May 22.
