Students who want to take part in the elections for the Austrian Students’ Union (ÖH) from May 9th to 11th must be enrolled for the summer semester by Tuesday (March 21st) and pay their ÖH contribution (21.20 euros, note ) and have transferred any tuition fees. This deadline is seven weeks before the first election day. It is then clear how many voters there are at the universities, private universities, technical colleges and teacher training colleges.
From Wednesday (March 22nd) to May 2nd, absentee ballots can then be applied for for postal votes in ÖH elections – but only for elections to university representation and for the federal representation. Student representatives must be elected locally.
It is also possible to submit nominations or candidatures from Tuesday (March 21). The simplifications introduced due to the corona continue to apply. Normally, campaigning groups had to collect a certain number of votes to run – but after two years ago at the beginning of the summer semester there were hardly any students at the universities, the parliamentary groups that already have a mandate could alternatively have the signature of one mandatary and one Authorized recipient for an appointment. The relevant provisions have not been changed since then.
New campaigning groups for the federal representation, on the other hand, still have to submit declarations of support from a total of 200 eligible voters from at least seven different universities. At least ten people must sign at each of these seven universities. Between ten and 150 signatures are sufficient for the individual university representations (depending on their size).
