In just over a week, the Växjö Lakers will gather to begin work ahead of the upcoming SHL season. Once they do, they will be joined by a new player in the form of Elias Rosén – who signs a two-year contract with the club.
Backen has a past in both Leksand and Västerås, where he played as a youngster. But the last five years he has spent on the other side of the Atlantic. First as a college player, and last season in the ECHL and the Kansas City Mavericks.
“It feels like an incredibly fun opportunity to sign with Växjö and play in the SHL. I have always dreamed of playing in Sweden’s top league, so when they called, it was an easy choice. Especially when such a successful association as Växjö with so many successful seasons got in touch!”, says the defender in a statement on the club’s website.
Växjö’s eighth signing
Växjö’s sporting director, Henrik Evertsson, has now completed eight new acquisitions ahead of the upcoming season.
“Elias may have sailed a little under the radar because he went the college route. But we see a very all-round player who in many ways plays exactly the hockey we want to play. Smart decisions, loyal to the team and with a will to do their utmost to win,” says the sports manager on the website.
