Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Elias Bou Saab, noted that “I represent all of Lebanon and am convinced of the necessity of dialogue between all parties. I speak with everyone and seek to bring everyone’s points of view closer together.”
Bou Saab pointed out, in an interview with “MTV”, that “I tried during my tour of all the parties to urge everyone to sit down and engage in dialogue to find a way towards a solution, and the French embassy’s message was somewhat vague, and the Frenchman made a mistake in terms of form by selecting a certain number of colleagues and not others.” .
He revealed that, “Currently, there is nothing serious about the issue of Army Commander Joseph Aoun’s accession to the presidency for the simple reason that any elected president must obtain the approval of Hezbollah, and I hope that he will give guarantees to the party about its position on Hezbollah’s weapons, as in the ministerial statement and the clause related to the party’s weapons.”
He explained, “The army commander told me that I am not a candidate and I do not want the presidency of the republic, and since he now wants that, I will deal with him as a presidential candidate, and if Aoun is nominated, I will vote with a blank paper because I want a president who has clear positions. For example, he did not control the borders as he should and there was politicization of the file.”
He stated that “I personally am not convinced that the dialogue is imminent, and if the dialogue is not held this month, the situation will of course become more difficult,” noting that “there is a serious discussion on the issue of expanded administrative financial decentralization, and I do not think that this issue cannot be agreed upon, as everyone wants it and there is acceptance of consultation on the issue from Shiite duo.
He added, “The American position is to encourage the election of a president, but they have no candidate and have not adopted a specific candidate.”
Regarding the demarcation of maritime borders, Bou Saab stressed, “The issue is of great strategic importance, as for our land borders, they are demarcated with 13 points, and what the government coordinator for the International Emergency Forces, Brigadier General Mounir Shehadeh, is doing is with a high degree of professionalism.”
He pointed out that “there is interest in the oil blocks surrounding Block No. 9, and it is growing day by day. Hochstein spoke of great interest from major Arab countries, and that every delay is in Israel’s interest because it has begun extraction and export to Europe.”
He revealed, “There is a fear that the events in Ain al-Hilweh will spread outside the camp, and there is fear for Tripoli.”
