Eliana Revollar on Education Minister’s apologies: “They are not well argued”

Eliana Revollar, defender of the Pueblopointed out that the apologies of the Minister of Education, Oscar Becerra“are not well argued” and that his statement on Aymara women “is institutional violence.”

“It is a more institutional violence that is being generated in the framework of the crisis due to the qualification or disqualification that rural women are given, fundamentally we have seen it in some congressmen; however, we have been called by these statements made by the Minister of Education in our country,” he said in no turns.

Along these lines, he said that the minister’s apologies refer to documents he sent on February 6 “where he asks the attorney for the Minedu to take action for the participation of children and adolescents in the protests”.

“By sending us that document here there is a very serious error, the job of the attorney is to defend the State against the issue of various types of crimes. It is very worrying not only the grievances that the attorney for the Minedu would have to take action, it is not their competence, it would be a criminalization of the participation of children and adolescents in protests,” he added in no turns.

The Minister of Education, Óscar Becerra, offered a message on March 8 for International Women’s Day and took advantage of the occasion to apologize for his previous statements in which he had compared the Aymara women who went out to protest with animals to their babies in Plaza San Martín.

I do not want to finish without offering an apology for some unfortunate phrases of mine that have been misinterpreted and have generated criticism. I want to tell you that if any expression of mine has been wrong, I offer my sincere apologies. At the same time, I ratify my absolute defense of the girls and boys of Peru, and I highlight the self-sacrifice of the woman who is capable of giving her life for her children; at the same time that I condemn people who use boys and girls for political purposes, because there is nothing more reprehensible than that,” said the head of Minedu.

Ruth Luque filed a criminal complaint against Minister Becerra

the parliamentarian of Democratic ChangeRuth Luque, criminally denounced the Minister of Education, Óscar Becerra, for his statements to the detriment of the Aymara women who participated in the protests in Plaza San Martín.

“Today, in a country in which we should reaffirm democracy, unrestricted respect for fundamental rights, respect for our diversity and culturally recognize how Aymara Quechua women mobilize; expressions of this nature cannot be ignored”, said the parliamentarian.
