After bronze on the omnium the day before, Elia Viviani won the gold medal in the elimination race this Sunday, at the end of the World Championships on the Roubaix track. The Italian dominated Iuri Leitao and Sergei Rostovstsev. Passed a gut of elimination in the middle of the race, the Cofidis rider concluded perfectly during the final duel against the Portuguese, to afford his first world title on the track, at 32 years old.

Present in the last four, the fresh scratch world champion Donovan Grondin (21) finished at the foot of the podium (4th) in a race which was making its debut in the world championship program. In total, the French delegation left Roubaix with six medals, two of which were gold. It’s better than in 2020, in Germany, and the 5 blue medals, for a single title.
