Degerfors overthrew Elfsborg in the Allsvenskan gold battle last fall.
The Värm national team was responsible for a 2–2 replay and knocked out Elfsborg in the Swedish Cup.
A small consolation for the Boras: Arber Zeneli is getting closer to a homecoming.
Elfsborg had the match ball to secure the SC gold at home in the penultimate round of the Allsvenskan last autumn against Degerfors. The rumble ended 2–2 and meant the SC gold decider away to Malmö FF (which MFF won) and that Degerfors went out.
When Elfsborg met Degerfors again on Sunday, a quarter-final place in the Swedish Cup was at stake.
Degerfors took the lead through Karim Mammar (15), but Elfsborg turned around with two goals from Simon Hedlund (64th and 66th minute).
But Degerfors sank Elfsborg again.
In extra time (90+2), Adi Fisic forced the visitors to make it 2-2. The tied result meant that the Värm national team won the group and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Swedish Cup.
Bizarre expulsion
Degerfors beat Elfsborg despite the team being sent off at the start of the second half. It was a nightmare couple of minutes for centre-back Bernardo Morgado.
In the 48th minute he picked up a yellow card, then poked the ball away on cue and picked up his second just six minutes later.
– Elfsborg flew after that expulsion that changed everything, says expert Andreas Brännström in TV4’s broadcast.
The dream signing close
The 2-2 result and exit from the Swedish Cup was a heavy blow for Elfsborg. A small (?) consolation in the sorrow for the Borås is that the dream signing Arber Zeneli, 29, is getting closer.
A few days ago, the deadline passed for his former club, Turkish Adana Demirspor, to respond to Fifa on how they view Zeneli’s breach of contract after the turn of the year and the non-payment of agreed compensation.

Can be done this week
– As we understood it, Fifa will make a statement based on the information they received. We think it will come very soon, says Elfsborg’s club manager Stefan Andreasson before the meeting with Degerfors.
When could you sign a contract with Zeneli?
– We have an ambition to get the right side of it during the coming week. But then you never know in this world what is realistic, says Andreasson soberly.
