#ELF23 – News from the conference and start of the season ticket promotion

For the Vienna Vikings, 2022 was the first season of the European League of Football: it started in May 2022 with many expectations and many unknowns and ended with a triumph in September. Because in the very first year in the European premier class, the Vienna franchise – after an impressive performance in the final against Hamburg – brilliantly won the championship title. Thus, with the preseason of May 2023, the ‘defense of the title’ mission for the Viennese starts.

The die was then officially cast on Friday afternoon: the conference standings were set, including some not so good news from Turkey: the Istanbul Rams will not be taking part in ELF23 games in 2023.

17 teams from 9 European countries with 1 goal will launch in 2023, including six new franchises. For the Vienna Vikings, who will play in the Eastern Conference next season, the opponents are clear: In the regular season, the Viennese franchise will meet the best teams from Berlin, Leipzig, Prague, Fehervar/Budapest, Innsbruck and Wroclaw. Hot action on the pitch, high tension and fun are guaranteed.

The 2023 regular season will be similar to last season. Each team plays 12 games in a 14-week period, meeting twice – home and away – against every team in their conference. Also, fans can look forward to 2023 Battles of Austria happy, because the Vienna’s interconference opponents will be the Raiders Tirol.

Vienna Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay’s first assessment of regular-season opponents

“At the moment it is still difficult to evaluate our opponents in the conference. We obviously follow the signings of other franchises, see what changes are happening in the roster and coaching staff. That’s why it’s still quite vague to make concrete assessments of the strength of opposing teams. with Prague and Fehervar come two completely new franchises at the ELF banquet. In Leipzig and Wroclaw we could observe the upheavals, not just because they have new head coaches. Also in Innsbruck enters the post-Shelton era in 2023, if I may call it that. At this point I would Berlin Thunder as arguably the toughest opponent in the Eastern Conference title race see; they had a great 2022 season and signed a strong receiving corps,” Vienna said Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay in an initial statement on the division of playgroups.
Precise observations also happen the other way around, of course. Other franchises keep their eyes and ears peeled when it comes to new and further purchases of the Viennese master. “Our roster planning is already well advanced, I can reveal so much. I think, many announcements about purchases and extensions will make fans eager for the new season. We currently see squad completion as a priority in the sports arena,” adds Coach Calaycay.
