ELF House, affiliated with the Emirates Literature Foundation, announced the launch of eight new creative publications, in a press conference held within the festival’s activities at the InterContinental Dubai Festival City, as part of its cultural mission to support the publishing industry in the Emirates, the stories of Emiratis and its residents, and the recording of stories. The past, the preservation of popular memory and the oral history of the region in written literary forms.
Ahlam Al Bolooki, managing director of ELF Publishing House, CEO of the Emirates Literature Foundation, and director of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, announced the launch of the collection “Arab Girl” by Aousha bint Khalifa Al Suwaidi, one of the pioneers of Emirati Nabati poetry, which was collected by Dr. Rafia Ghobash and translated into the language. Dr. Nadia Khawandanah, as well as the launch of the English translation of the novel “The Rose Diaries” by Reem Al Kamali, which was shortlisted for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction for the year 2022 and translated into Arabic by Chip Rosetti. The new releases include a variety of books in children’s literature, fiction and non-fiction, such as the book “Aisha’s Cake” by Julia Johnson, illustrated by artist Maitha Al Khayyat, which is the second part of the book “Aisha’s Pearl”, which narrates the adventures of an Emirati girl with her grandfather, in addition to the Arabic version. From the book “Aisha’s Cake”, by the same writer, Julia Johnson, and the artist Maitha Al-Khayyat, and translated by Noura Al-Khoury, and the book “A Dragon Called Blue”, which is a picture book for children written by the writer Ibtisam Al-Baiti, and drawn by the artist Timothys Grechus, in addition to the book “Encyclopedia of the United Arab Emirates”, Which is an introductory and interactive guide about the history of the UAE, its geographical location and its culture, written by Francesca Affleck, in addition to the picture book “Lolly is Perfectly Fine”, by Wendy Meador, as well as the book “Outside the Borders of This World”, which reviews exclusive excerpts from Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi’s mission, Which lasted for months on board the International Space Station. Director of Education Initiatives and Support Services at the Emirates Literature Foundation, Dania Droubi, stressed to Emirates Today the importance of introducing Western society to the cultural and creative production in the UAE and the Arabian Gulf region, pointing to the importance of conveying the vocabulary of local culture to global horizons. The painter, Maitha Al-Khayyat, confirmed to Emirates Today that her participation in these new publications comes as a continuation of her efforts in this field and her desire to present children’s stories that express in one way or another their dreams, feelings, and interests in discovering life, adding, “I have been a fan and follower of (Emirates Literature) since The launch of its first edition, and there is no doubt that I am proud today to present my own works and drawings for children, to the largest possible segment of its audience, and to contribute to enhancing the presence of the Emirati creator in these leading cultural platforms and platforms.”
