Elephant at the Jahnstadion – athletics

150 children show their skills at the end of the athletics season / renovation of the dilapidated sports facility in the spring of 2023.

At the end of the season, the athletics department of TV Neustadt offered a special competition. For children under the age of twelve there was children’s athletics in the Jahnstadion. Across six stations, 22 teams from eight clubs across three age groups fought for points and positions. Once again excellently organized by Carola Schubnell and Anna Lena Simon and with the support of 25 helpers, the dilapidated sports facility experienced what was probably its last competition. The renovation works are scheduled to start in spring 2023.

The competitive form of track and field for children does not concern the classic disciplines of track and field. Young athletes can playfully compete. Instead of throwing the ball the classic way, “lemons” were thrown across the lawn, which on closer inspection turned out to be tennis balls with tails. The long jump became the “spring” and the standing long jump became the “elephant kick”.

Team spirit and fun instead of strict rules and fighting for centimeters and tenths of a second are the top priority in athletics for children. At the awards ceremony, all participants received certificates and medals. The children of Lauffreunde Freiburg have been outstanding in both the team and individual rankings. In the U8 class, the Breisgau team ranked first with 463 points, followed by TV Neustadt’s first children’s team with 448 points and the youngest track and field athletes from TB Löffingen I, who collected 419 points. In the individual race double victory for the Freiburg team with Leona Tagoe, who scored 122 points, followed by Neustadt students Finn Drescher with 118 and Noe Drescher with 113 points.

In the U10 class, Löffinger’s boys just ahead of Lauffreunde Freiburg with 757 and LV Donaueschingen with 722 points with 773 points. The U10 boys achieved a tight individual result: Marlon Leonhardt from Löffingen won with 209 points, followed by Levin Köpfer from Lenzkirch with 202 and Elena Taoe from Freiburg with 198 points. In the U12 age group, Lauffreunde Freiburg’s team won with 634 points.

Second and third place went to the Neustadt teams, who collected 583 and 566 points. Milo Kaltenbach from Freiburg was unbeatable with 164 points. Right behind was Neustadt’s Dana Kleiser with 159 points, who relegated Eisenbach’s Marvin Ketterer to third place by just one point.
