Elena Yoncheva with a letter to the European Prosecutor’s Office. What’s next for Borisov

“The arrest of Boyko Borissov is a step towards the recovery of the state and I believe that evidence will be collected and presented in court. The important thing is for the Bulgarian court to decide what is right and what is wrong. … This is the first step. and I hope the truth will finally come to court. “

This was said to BNR by the MEP from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats Elena Yoncheva.

She announced that she had sent a letter to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office on the case and stressed that the European Public Prosecutor’s Office has the right to conduct an independent investigation through delegated prosecutors:

“The fact that he does not deny that he is investigating the specific signal is a clear enough signal. We will find out what the reasons are at a later stage, they probably have their reasons for not giving publicity. … However, the competence in the final is the Bulgarian court That is why it is very important for the European Prosecutor ‘s Office to gather enough evidence for the Bulgarian court to rule. “

Yoncheva stated emphatically that the rule of law must be respected, because it is very important that there is no doubt that the law is not observed in the detention of a former prime minister of a European country:

“Everything here, and in Brussels, will be monitored very closely. The Socialists and Democrats in the EP issued a declaration on the detention of the former prime minister, which said:” Now we expect justice to shed light on all the shady scandals in recent years. during which Borissov was in power. Justice must win and show the people in Bulgaria and the EU that there is zero tolerance for the misuse of EU funds. Colleagues also have enough information, and I am in touch with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. I hope to receive more information soon. “

The MEP commented on the program “Week 150” and the war in Ukraine:

“I asked Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov during a hearing in the EP’s Defense Committee. I asked him who he was negotiating with in Bulgaria and at what stage these talks were. My question was whether they wanted Russian weapons from Poland, Slovakia and Bulgaria. .. He replied that he could not reveal details, but sent letters to the defense ministers of the mentioned countries. He said that he wanted all kinds of weapons, including tanks. “

Elena Yoncheva expressed the opinion that European countries should not arm Ukraine, but make humanitarian and diplomatic efforts:

“Arming Ukraine will only continue the war, not lead to lasting peace. This is the opinion of many MEPs, although we are a minority at the moment. … Those who arm Ukraine are at war with Moscow using Ukrainian territory. .. We cannot, by helping Ukraine, yes, we must do everything possible to help refugees, but we cannot punish our citizens for mistakes and crimes – both in Moscow and in the EU. Borrell said in an interview that Europe has its mistakes. I expect him to answer what. Because there is no way in the EU to find the necessary instrument for a diplomatic solution to the conflict if we do not know the reasons that led to this fratricidal war. “It’s about the use of nuclear weapons, these are terrible things, how the EU has allowed itself to get this far – these are the big questions that Europe has to answer, otherwise we will only generate Euroscepticism.”
