She pointed out that if Krum Zarkov’s law had been adopted, it would have “softened” the assessment of the system, given proof that the political class was “shocked”.
Poptodorova pointed out that the inclusion of Great Britain is an important factor because it shows that the jurisdiction that monitors illegal and corrupt flows is expanding in Europe as well.
She was adamant that the “Magnitsky” list could not be made without a thorough preliminary check. “When we talk about sanctioned persons, they are never only in a very narrow “track”. In all cases, this has to do with financial systems, with security issues,” she commented.
Poptodorova believes that “the noose is tightening not only around the Prosecutor’s Office”. She commented on Prosecutor Geshev’s visit to the USA as a “touching attempt to enhance Bulgaria’s relations with the USA”. She added that Geshev met with two long-departed congressmen.
There should be no illusions about the American and British servicesPoptodorova said.
Poptodorova also commented on the energy problems in the country. She pointed out that the talks with Westinghouse have been going on for more than 10 years.
