Helen Ora is a pseudonym. “It’s not my personality, I’m still Elina, nothing has changed in my passport,” says the artist, who recently published the book “Panic”, which has already been appreciated by readers.
“First of all, they are the right to my order in my art folder. Surnames can be changed, it happens in life. Maligina has a second surname. If something changes in life again, maybe there will be another surname. Will I just think of changing myself? Therefore, being honest with my works and people who recognize me both in Latvia and abroad, so that there is this pseudonym, which I have chosen, “Maligina justifies the change of name. She is still Elīna Maligina in official identity documents.
When asked why she called herself Helen, the artist says that this is her second name in her passport, given by her parents.
“I also finished primary school as Helen Dzelme, because there were five or six Elina in the class. But Ora is a derivative of my grandfather’s surname O’kaurs. In cultural terms, I will only be Helen Ora,” she says.
