Elektro – Potsdam – Tesla’s amendments are publicly displayed – economy

Potsdam (dpa / bb) – The US electric car manufacturer Tesla wants to advance the construction of its factory in Grünheide (Oder-Spree) and has submitted changed documents that are to be made available to citizens. The documents for the planned construction will be publicly displayed from this Thursday (2.7.), As Brandenburg’s Ministry of the Environment announced on Tuesday.

The “Tagesspiegel” reported with reference to the Ministry of the Environment that the applications concerned an earlier start for parts of a shell.

Citizens can inspect the documents at the State Office for the Environment at the Frankfurt (Oder) site, in the town hall of Grünheide, in the Erkner town hall and in the Spreenhagen office. However, due to the restrictions in the corona pandemic, everyone must register by phone beforehand. This is to ensure that not too many people come together to inspect the files.

Tesla plans to produce around 500,000 electric cars per year in Grünheide near Berlin from next year. Around 12,000 people are expected to work in the factory from the second half of next year. According to a strategy paper now available, the Oder-Spree district is expecting 10,000 newcomers to the region.

It is already the second citizen participation in the approval process. The amendments should also be published in the Official Journal. Citizens have the opportunity to submit objections until September 3, 2020. According to the Ministry of the Environment, the approval process continues. 373 objections are currently being examined and processed.

According to the ministry, the public should participate a second time in the approval process because the amendments could have an impact on the environment. The application documents should also be published in full on the Internet.

Tesla has already cleared 90 hectares of pine forest on the 300-hectare site and leveled the soil for the construction site. The final environmental approval for the factory is pending, so Tesla undertakes this work at its own risk.

The citizens’ initiative against the planned factory sees the submission of changes as “trickery and perversion of the law”. Tesla knew that, for example, piles had to be set because of the building site at the Grünheide site, said Steffen Schorcht, a representative of the initiative, of the German Press Agency. The US automaker deliberately did not submit this in the first documents in order to obtain an early building permit.
