Colombian boxer Eléider Álvarez decided to retire after losing by technical knockout in the ninth round to American Joe Smith, on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Conference Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada (United States), in a qualifying fight to aspire to the title of the light heavyweight of the World Boxing Organization.
“Eléider Álvarez has decided to retire after his loss to Joe Smith Jr., and it is a very smart decision, he is 36 years old and he seemed to be 36 when they beat him until they stopped him. Álvarez was far inferior to his opponent and suffered harsh punishment during all rounds. Because of how bad it looked, he and his coach Marc Ramsay concluded that the best option was to hang up the gloves.
