Electronic payment: CMI and Visa launch “Tap to mobile”

The Interbank Monetic Center (CMI) is launching, in partnership with Visa, the Soft POS “Tap to mobile” payment solution. This innovation transforms Android smartphones and tablets equipped with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology into contactless payment terminals, without requiring additional equipment, thus offering a more flexible and accessible payment solution to merchants.

The new Soft POS payment application allows merchants to accept payments directly via their smartphones or tablets, simply by approaching customers’ bank cards or mobile devices (phones, smartwatches, etc.). This secure service offers a simple and fast payment experience, both for local and international cardholders.

“The launch of “Tap to mobile” in Morocco aims to accelerate the adoption of digital payments and equip a growing number of merchants with inclusive solutions. This will also contribute to the national financial inclusion strategy, by facilitating access to payment services for all,” underlines Rachid Saihi, Director General of CMI.

For Visa, this partnership with CMI opens a new era for small Moroccan merchants and artisans, who often face challenges related to the acceptance of electronic payments. “This acceptance service will be a game changer in the digitalization of payments, allowing merchants to benefit from the advantages of the digital economy and secure their sales by accepting contactless payments anywhere and anytime,” says Sami Romdhane, General Manager of Visa in Morocco.

With the Soft POS “Tap to mobile” solution, CMI and Visa want to strengthen their commitment to transforming the payment experience in Morocco, with a more inclusive, accessible and environmentally friendly process, while supporting the national financial inclusion strategy, the two companies said.
