Electronic counting starts – here’s how to do it (video step by step)

The NSI recommends this method as fast, easy, convenient and safe in a pandemic

The long-awaited start of the 18th census of the population and housing stock in Bulgaria will be given at 0.00 am on September 7, 2021. Then the Census Information System will be opened and anyone living permanently in Bulgaria will be able to count online, the National Statistical Institute announced.

Hence, they recommend this method as fast, easy, convenient and safe in a pandemic. Then the meeting with the counter will be only when transmitting the unique 15-digit code that generates the system on successful counting.

To be sure that someone will not be counted on our behalf, it is necessary to register with a valid e-mail, PIN and number of a Bulgarian identity document. The registration data are used only for identification of the person and are not stored by the NSI. Following confirmation of registration – we receive an email with a link that we must click within 2 hours. After confirmation, a screen for filling in the electronic counting card will open. You must enter there with the email and password from our registration.

Three days before the start: NSI expects 65% of the population to count electronically, open

The census card contains questions about the home, the household and the people we live in the same household with.

It takes an average of 20 minutes to complete the counting card. It can be interrupted and resumed later, but we must have completed and confirmed each page with the “Next” button. If we leave an unfinished page for more than 30 minutes without entering it, the connection is lost and we have to log in again with an email and password.

We can return to previous pages of the census map and edit the information, but only until its final completion. Then, until September 17, we will only be able to see our data, but not edit it.

After the successful count, we will receive a message and an email with a unique 15-digit code, which we must keep and pass on to the enumerator when he rings our doorbell.

It is important to know:

  • We need to fill in the address where we actually live, not where we are registered.
  • Access to the electronic card will be limited only to Bulgaria, as Bulgarians living permanently abroad will be counted in the country in which they live.

And here are detailed instructions for registration in the electronic census portal:
