The retail power battle continues, with competition between electricity providers steadily squeezing kilowatt-hour prices on fixed ‘blue’ tariffs.
After the green light given by the political leadership of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINE) stipulating that blue tariffs also include those with a duration of at least six months (instead of 12 months), the competition began with particularly attractive prices.
The 6-month and 8-month contracts
Recently two new fixed products of 6-month duration were launched on the market by the companies Protergia and Heron and one of 8-month duration by Natural Gas.
In particular, Protergia offers the “Household Value Safe”, a fixed six-month charge at 9.75 cents per kWh (kilowatt hour) 24 hours a day and fixed at 9.9 euros per month, without a standing order and consistency condition.
Heron has launched Fix Genius at 13 minutes per kWh (or 10.40 minutes per kWh with a 20% consistency discount) 24/7, fixed at €9.50 per month with zero guarantee and upfront via standing order activation.
As for Natural Gas, with Maxi Home Fixed it offers a fixed price of 12.3 cents per kWh for 8 months, with a fixed price of 9 euros per month and zero guarantee with the activation of a standing order.
The 12-month invoices
Fixed blue tariffs, 12 months long, already offer:
- Heron FIX GENIUS HOME with 15.93 and 4 euros fixed and Home Fix 3 with 16.5 cents per kWh and 7.5 euros fixed etc.
- Elpedison (the “Bright”) with 16.9 cents per kWh and a fixed rate of 3 euros
- NRG (the fixed 4U) with 15.1 cents per kWh and a fixed rate of 3.5 euros,
- Protergia (the Household Value Safe) with 16.5 cents per kWh and a fixed rate of 3.5 euros,
- Volton, Blue Fixed with 15.75 cents per kWh and a flat rate of 5.90 euros and “Blue Smart” with 18.9 cents per kWh and zero flat rate,
- PPC (My Home Online) with 17.5 cents per kWh and a fixed rate of 3.5 euros
- Elinoil (Power on! Blue) with 14.9 cents per kWh and fixed 5 euros,
- Zenith, “Power Home Direct” with 12.9 cents per kWh and a fixed rate of 7 euros and “Power Home Fixed SE” with 16 cents per kWh with a fixed rate of 5 euros
Lower prices
More generally, the gradual decline in the price of natural gas in the European TTF hub from 28.9 euros per megawatt hour on February 1 to 23.7 euros per megawatt hour on Monday, but also the drop in wholesale electricity prices in February to levels close to at 65 euros per megawatt hour, i.e. significantly lower than January (it closed at 93 euros) portends a March with lower tariffs for both fixed (blue) and variable (yellow) tariffs.
In fact, market players estimate that next month it is possible to see prices below 10 cents per kWh in more blue tariffs and even lower in yellow ones.
