Electricity Price Trends and Consumption in the Baltic States

The weekly average electricity price in Latvia was 142.28 EUR/MWh, in Lithuania – 142.44 EUR/MWh, which increased by 12% compared to the previous week.

In Estonia, the average price of electricity was 135.24 EUR/MWh, which is an increase of 10% compared to the previous week.

“Nord Pool” weekly system price increased by 16% to 20.15 EUR/MWh. Electricity prices in Central European countries last week – in Poland on average 115.09 EUR/MWh, in Germany 115.10 EUR/MWh, and in Austria the average price of electricity for the week was 112.97 EUR/MWh.

In the past week, the increase in the price of the “Nord Pool” system was mainly promoted by 7% lower wind development, which saw a sharp decrease in the middle of the week and increased again at the weekend.

In addition, electricity consumption in the “Nord Pool” region increased by 3% compared to the previous week. The upward trend of electricity prices in the Baltic States continued to be affected by the unplanned disconnection of the NordBalt (Sweden SE4 area – Lithuania) power transmission connection, in addition, energy flows from Finland decreased by 8% and flows from Poland decreased by 15% compared to the previous week’s data. In addition, the energy products market showed a trend of price growth.

The total electricity consumption in the Baltic States increased by 1% and was 449 GWh.

The amount of electricity consumed in Latvia remained at the level of the previous week and was 111 GWh. Consumption in Estonia was also 1% lower than the week before, and 128 GWh were consumed.

In Lithuania, electricity consumption was 210 GWh, which increased by 2% compared to the previous week.

Last week, electricity production in the Baltics increased by 11%, and a total of 258 GWh was produced. In Latvia, the amount of electricity generation decreased by 7% to 61 GWh. In Estonia, electricity generation was 1% lower than a week earlier and was 80 GWh. Meanwhile, the production volume in Lithuania increased by 35% to 117 GWh of electricity.

In the past week, the volume of production versus consumption in Latvia was 55%, in Estonia – 63%, and in Lithuania – 56%. 58% of the electricity consumed in the region was produced in the Baltic States.
