Electricity, gas, telephony… This government initiative could limit your costs

You may finally be able to choose the date of your direct debits to pay your bills gas, electricity, telephone or mutual insurance. According to information from RMC, the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire asked this Friday, February 21, to several large groups (Aviva, Axa, SFR, Bouygues Télécom, CNP assurances, EDF, Engie, Maïf, etc.) this favor: allow customers of set the monthly withdrawal day, when signing a contract.

Invoices: limit the costs associated with payment incidents

Since all French people do not receive their resources (salaries, allowances, pensions, allowances, etc.), at the beginning of the month, when the bills fall, it is sometimes complicated to “stay green”. The costs for payment incidents are therefore increasing. According toUFC What to Choose, one in four consumers incurs incident costs each year. The government’s goal is to be able to limit them.

Thanks to this initiative, consumers will be able to choose the most suitable date according to the payment of their income on their bank accounts.

However, companies do not seem easy to convince. Especially since this proposal will be established on volunteering. Right now, only Engie seems to want to play the game.

However, these costs also constitute a substantial windfall for banks: more than 6.5 and a half billion euros each year. It therefore seems difficult to convince them also to lower these costs. The government, however, enjoins them to no longer bill the same direct debit several times. If this is prohibited, banking institutions have no way of detecting that it is the same issuing company and the same invoice. Proof must be provided by the customer, in order to hope to be reimbursed.

The executive therefore expects a solution from the banks and the companies concerned. They have until November 2021 to find it.
