Electricity for an electric car is already more expensive than gasoline. An example that does not please

Rising energy prices bring with them a number of various changes that may not be apparent at first glance. It turns out, for example, that driving an electric car will no longer be as advantageous as it may have seemed for a long time. At the same time, many thought that electricity would be cheap forever, which would give this drive an advantage over others.

Expensive pumping of electricity

But that’s not the case. The worst scenarios that didn’t even exist a year ago have come true. Few could have imagined that the price of electricity would rise fivefold. Especially at a time when there was so much talk about the fact that renewable sources can produce a huge amount of electricity and rather it will be difficult to consume it all.

But as usual, something different than what was generally expected happened. Even domestic owners of electric cars may begin to regret their decision to switch from a combustion engine to an electric engine.

Even a year ago, some companies offered electric car charging as a benefit. That’s how cheap this energy was. But that is long gone. Today, after several increases in the price of electricity, it is an expensive matter that basically equals or surpasses filling up a normal car with gasoline.

If you recharged at ČEZ Group stands via the DC connector, where the power is limited to 99 kW, then as a registered customer you paid CZK 8 for 1 kWh, and as an unregistered customer, CZK 10. The prices rose to 13 and 15 CZK. The price of HPC connectors enabling charging power higher than 99 kW went up by a full 80%. Instead of 10 or 12 CZK, 18 and 20 CZK are now paid,” stated Jakub Horák on his Facebook profile. “So a fully charged Škoda Enyaq iV80, with which you can drive 400 kilometers, will cost you CZK 1,640 without registration.

Economics of operation

Of course, gasoline and diesel also went up in price, but even though they may seem very expensive, it’s still nothing compared to the increase in electricity prices. In addition, today’s modern, especially diesel cars, can drive very economically. They can travel a thousand kilometers on one tank if they drive relatively economically. In such a case, this fuel is more advantageous than electricity.

Of course, it also has other advantages. Especially since electric cars do not emit emissions in cities. However, many people bought such a car because they wanted to have cheaper running costs. Because of this, they were willing to pay a higher purchase price, with the understanding that it would be paid back to them gradually. However, this will not happen at current electricity prices.

In addition, it can be a big problem in the future. A ban on the sale of cars with an internal combustion engine has already been approved for the year 2035. However, electric cars are more expensive and it is quite possible that their operation will become more expensive. Even fewer people will be able to afford them than today.
