Electricity company of the city of Zurich is building wind farm in France

The park will produce around 34 gigawatt hours of electricity annually. That is one and a half times as much as the Letten power plant delivers, as the city announced on Monday. The ewz will thus increase its annual electricity production from wind energy to 1082 gigawatt hours.

Construction will start in April and the four wind turbines are scheduled to go into operation in March 2022. Ewz already operates three wind farms in the region: Epinette, Autrementcourt and Graincourt.

The Camblain project is financed from the credit line for investments in renewable energy. Since 2007, the electorate and the municipal council approved such loans totaling 420 million francs. On Wednesday, the local council said another 200 million francs for a referendum.

Because: ewz is planning nine more wind farms in France. These cannot all be financed through existing credit lines, as Keystone-SDA asked for at ewz. The new CHF 200 million package is expected to be voted on in June.

According to current planning, the ten new wind farms in France – of which Camblain will be the first – should be in place by 2027. The 69 turbines will then deliver 450 gigawatt hours of electricity, which would increase ewz electricity production from wind energy to around 1.5 terawatt hours. This corresponds to around a third of today’s ewz electricity production.

At the beginning of February, ewz announced that it had taken over the Måkaknuten wind farm in Norway. With around 350 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, production from wind power could be expanded by half at that time.
