Electricity and gas, prices higher and higher due to the rise in the raw material component. Very heavy price increases for families, who study strategies on how to defend themselves. On the other hand, the data for the first quarter of 2022 show, according to monitoring Arera (Authority for the regulation of public utility services)a + 55% increase in the electricity bill and 41.8% for gas: despite the Government’s interventions, such as social bonuses, the amounts continue to rise and so are concern.

One of the results, underlined by Arera, is that more and more customers – families but also businesses – switch to the free market: in the electricity sector, 59.7% of households (+ 2.4% in six months) and 70.4% of companies (+ 2.4%), 62.0% of domestic customers in the gas sector (+ 1.8%).
According to the monitoring carried out, 83.1% of the contracts signed by customers between 18 and 29 years old are in the free market: the choice of this option remains the majority up to the 70-79 year old age group, even if with the growing of the age groups , the percentage of customers served in greater protection rises.
The share of customers who, coming out of the greater protection, choose a free market contract with the same seller, remains above 50%. “When the phase of very high prices in gas and electricity will have passed – declares the president of Arera, Stefano Besseghini – the numbers will show us if and how our consumption behaviors and our market choices will change”.
The offers available
The Arera offers portal (data updated to 31 December 2021) contains approximately 3,881 offers. Thus divided. For the electricity sector: 1,062 offers for domestic customers (those at fixed prices rose from 61% to 41%); 974 for non-domestic customers (from 56% to 36% for fixed price customers).
